Who is Solstice Meadery?
It all begins with an idea, a hobby, a passion! For more than 10 years now I have been brewing and fermenting. Making mead is not for the feint of heart. It takes time, commitment, not a small amount of patience and it sure as hell ain’t the cheapest hobby to take up. But when you handcraft something that you share with your friends, family and even complete strangers and see the looks of satisfaction on their face; hear their complements and yes, even constructive criticism, you can’t help but smile with pride and double down on your efforts.
I was born and raised in the small town of Victoria Texas by a single father that worked 12 hours on, 12 hours off. As you can imagine, I had more than a little free time with no real supervision. (It was a different time back then) My father did the best he could with 3 growing boys on his hands to keep a modicum of civilization in the house and food on the table. My brothers and I ruled the neighborhood, day or night, and I do mean ALL hours of the day or night, you could find 1 or more of us out and about. Usually getting into some form of trouble or planning the next form of trouble. Despite my father’s , and his second wife’s, best efforts I grew to be a bit of a rapscallion and ne’er-do-well. The Marine Corps put a stop to that….Or did it reinforce it…I suppose only time will tell :)
Our values
Loyalty: How do you say it’s about the friends that you would help hide a body without saying you’d help hide a body? It’s about that 1 person or small core group that are your ‘ride or die’ crew. The family you chose vs the family you were born with. The friend that had to move away, joined the military or experienced tragedy in their life that took them away for a while. And yet, months or even years later, when you get to see them once again it’s like they never left. If you understand that feeling, then you get us!
